25 YEARS OF SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER

A THREE DAY CERTIFIED TRAINING PROGRAM FOR MSW STUDENTS ON SOCIAL WELFARE LEGISLATIONS

Dear teachers and students,

Greetings from Jananeethi!

Considering the relevance and scope of subjects like Social Welfare Legislations we understand that unless it is infused with grassroot level experiences that holistically promotes social justice and equity we can nowhere translate social theory into social action. The profession of social work has expanded and diversified worldwide, yet the most crucial role of social workers is to uphold human values. Sadly, there is a dearth of committed development practitioners in the social welfare sector and therefore the sector is facing a crisis. To confront the multifaceted social issues in a holistic way, it is vital for social workers to broaden their vision and understanding in a human rights based perspective. This perspective enables the promotion of social justice in all aspects of human existence.

We are extremely happy to organise training programs for those students who are pursuing their Masters in Social Work. To begin with, we have designed the training curriculum on SOCIAL WELFARE LEGISLATIONS to meet the ever-pressing demand by students, teachers and social activist community. Jananeethi’s long standing commitment to bring social justice and equity through a variety of strategic methods like community mobilisation, research and documentation, campaigns and advocacy, use of mainstream and alternate media has brought radical changes in the society. It has successfully networked and partnered with community organisations, welfare groups, local/state government, activist groups, academic institutes, international voluntary organisations in its struggle to enable the poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged section of the society aware of their inherent human rights so that they develop necessary skills to negotiate for their own rights.

The training program will enhance the knowledge, understanding and capabilities of the students regarding social legislations and also provide them with hands on experience to deal effectively with such issues. They will get the best opportunity to interact with eminent personalities in the field of education, social work, law, environment and gender. A combination of theoretical studies and participatory learning, will enable them to develop necessary skills on human rights education, expertise in the fields of law, gender etc. This learning process will allow students to develop and enhance the proficiency with which they practice as social workers and better prepares them for the multidimensional nature of a social work career.

Some of the issues covered in the training are mentioned below:

  • Social Legislation as an instrument of social change: Constitution, Welfare legislations for social change and social defense.
  • Human Rights: Major criminal acts protecting the Human rights, judicial activism and Public Interest Litigation (PIL), Free legal aid, Right to information etc.
